SHAMU STARS IN ‘BELIEVE’ — THE MOST AMBITIOUS
KILLER WHALE SHOW IN THE PARK’S HISTORY
SAN DIEGO — After years in the making, Shamu stars in the visually-stunning killer whale show, “Believe” – the most ambitious killer whale show in the park’s history. “Believe,” which opened in May 2006, showcases SeaWorld’s majestic killer whales with awe-inspiring choreography, thrilling new whale behaviors, an original musical score and panoramic LED screens, which offer more views of Shamu than ever before. “
‘Believe’ is definitely the most exciting killer whale show we have ever undertaken,” said SeaWorld General Manager Andy Fichthorn. “Shamu Stadium has gone high tech, and for the first time in 15 years it will have a whole new look that will provide all the thrill and excitement of Shamu with a show that combines visual beauty, stunning behaviors and state-of-the art multimedia.”
The new stainless steel set adds a completely new dimension to Shamu Stadium. The centerpiece of the new stage design is a 3-story whale tail flanked by four 20-foot-wide video screens that operate independently or can move together to create a single 80-foot-long panoramic screen. The screens provide guests with more breathtaking views of the whales from above- and below-water cameras including for the first time, a new Point of View camera suspended directly over the main show pool.
Other additions to Shamu Stadium include two waterfalls that will give the whales a more dramatic entrance to the show, a spectacular water fountain that sprays across the width of the pool and a stereo audio system that plays a new, original soundtrack recorded by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague.
The show opens with images of a boy who wants to experience killer whales up close. The action soon transitions to the pool, where whale and trainer discover each other in a series of behaviors. This turns to rambunctious fun as more whales and trainers enter the pool. The playful behaviors and upbeat tempo suddenly end, leaving trainers and whales center stage. Next, a beautiful ballet segment highlights the power and awe of the relationship between trainer and marine mammal. With help from screen images, the storyline returns to the young whale enthusiast, now a SeaWorld killer whale trainer, whose passion for Shamu is passed on to a member of the audience. This kicks the show into high gear, with an inspiring finish. “
‘Believe’ takes guests on a journey in which they feel all dreams are possible if only you believe,” said Fichthorn. “This inspirational new show reflects the close relationship our trainers share with the killer whales, as well as amazes guests with a series of exciting new behaviors never seen before.”
General SeaWorld admission is $61 for ages 10 or older; $51 for ages 3-9; and free for children two and under. Parking is $12 for cars and $17 for RVs and campers.
